WRAL regularly reports on crime news, including arrests and court dates, based on information provided by law enforcement agencies. We understand that an arrest is not a conviction, and that cases can end with charges being dismissed.
When WRAL reports an arrest on tv or online, it becomes part of the online archive. As a matter of policy, WRAL does not remove stories from that archive. We make corrections to errors of fact, and where a case is dismissed or expunged and we are made aware of that, we add that information to the report. WRAL is not subject to the state law involving online databases, SL 2009-510. We do not compile and disseminate criminal records for compensation.
To request a correction of fact or a statement of dismissal or expungement to an online story, individuals can email a copy of supporting documentation to onlinenewsroom@wral.com.
