Can I get an old crime story removed?

Follow

WRAL regularly reports on crime news, including arrests and court dates, based on information provided by law enforcement agencies.

We understand that an arrest is not a conviction, and that many cases end with charges being dismissed. Those who are charged can take the extra step and have a criminal record expunged, removing any record of their arrest from the justice system.

If WRAL reports an arrest on air or online, it becomes part of our online archive. As a matter of policy, WRAL does not remove stories from that archive. We make corrections to errors of fact and, where a case is dismissed or expunged, we add that information to clarify the report.

To request a correction of fact or a statement of dismissal or expungement to an online story, individuals can email a copy of supporting documentation here.
